The Future of Laptops and Monitors: ROG XREAL R1

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has officially announced the next era of wearable displays with the ROG XREAL R1. Developed in partnership with  XREAL, these glasses are the world’s first to feature a 240Hz micro-OLED refresh rate, bringing desktop-class performance to a portable, lightweight form factor.

The ROG XREAL R1 is designed to transform any environment by projecting a massive 171-inch virtual screen that appears four meters in front of the wearer.

Ultra-Smooth 240Hz Performance

The standout feature of the ROG XREAL R1 is its industry-leading 240Hz refresh rate. Combined with a 3ms motion-to-photon latency, these glasses offer the instantaneous responsiveness required for competitive FPS and action titles. The FHD (1920 x 1080) Micro-OLED panels deliver vibrant colors and deep blacks, while a 57-degree field of view ensures an immersive “theatre” experience that covers 95% of the human focused viewing area.

Seamless ROG Ecosystem Integration

While compatible with a wide range of devices via USB-C, the R1 is purpose-built for the ROG Ally handheld series. It offers a “zero setup” plug-and-play experience for Ally owners, instantly upgrading the handheld’s 7-inch screen to a cinematic 171-inch display.

For PC and console gamers, ASUS includes the ROG Control Dock. This hub provides:

  • Extensive Connectivity: Dual HDMI 2.0 ports and DisplayPort 1.4 for easy switching between a desktop PC and consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X).

  • 3DoF Tracking: Native “Anchor Mode” allows users to pin the virtual screen in space or let it follow their head movements.

Premium Design and Bose Audio

Weighing just 91 grams, the ROG XREAL R1 is built for long-term comfort. It features electrochromic lenses that automatically adjust tint based on ambient lighting, allowing for clear visibility in both bright rooms and dark environments.

The sensory experience is rounded out by Sound by Bose. The integrated spatial audio system creates a three-dimensional soundstage, providing the directional cues necessary for immersive gaming without the need for external headphones.

Pricing and Availability

The ROG XREAL R1 is expected to ship globally in the first half of 2026. While official pricing has yet to be finalized, the glasses are being showcased throughout CES 2026 at both the ASUS and XREAL booths.
