I have spend 2 weeks testing the Eufy C28 Robo Vacuum, from obstacle avoidance to cleaning to features in the app that I think new users should know about.

If you are new to the world of Robo Vacuums this review will also cover everything you need to know before making a decision.

Unboxing and Setup: Ready in Minutes

One of the most impressive aspects of the C28 is the out-of-the-box experience. Eufy has streamlined the unboxing process so that everything comes pre-installed.

  1. Hardware: You only need to connect the ramp to the docking station and plug it into a power source.

  2. Docking: Place the robot in position, and the physical setup is complete.

  3. Digital Integration: The Eufy app provides a seamless onboarding experience. The instructions are intuitive enough for a first-time user to follow without a hitch.

Thanks to the built-in LiDAR sensor, the initial mapping of my apartment was surprisingly fast. It accurately identified walls and furniture on the first pass, allowing me to get straight to cleaning.

Design and Docking Station

The docking station is well-organized and relatively compact. At the top, you’ll find two-liter tanks for clean and dirty water. Directly below these is the auto-empty dust bag compartment.

If you are first time Robo vacuum user, you should know that the Dust Bag is Disposable, i.e. after it’s full you are supposed to throw away the one you have and install a new one.

Performance: The Roller Mop vs. Dual Spinners

The standout feature of the C28 is its Single Roller Mop design. On paper, this is considered superior for heavy spills and stains because it features a built-in scraper that auto-cleans the roller as it moves.

  • The Reality: While the theory is sound, in practical daily use, the difference between this and high-end dual spinning pads is negligible. Modern vacuums are already programmed to return to their docks at regular intervals to clean their pads.

  • The Win: Where the C28 truly shines is the Dual Brush design. If you have pets (or humans with long hair), you know the struggle of cutting hair out of a vacuum’s rollers. This design effectively prevents tangles, making maintenance much easier.

The vacuum itself sits quite low to the floor. While this low profile is a massive advantage for mopping efficiency and reaching under low-clearance furniture, it does present a minor hurdle: the robot occasionally struggles to climb onto thicker carpets. Eufy suggests taping the sides of carpets in the app, but I found it handled my raised room dividers with no issues.

Maintenance: Designed for Real-Life Messes

While the dual brushes and scraper do a lot of the heavy lifting, it’s important to remember this isn’t magic. Even with advanced engineering, hair and debris can occasionally get caught in the rollers or the mop assembly.

The good news is that Eufy has clearly accounted for this. The vacuum is remarkably easy to open and maintain. Whether you need to clear a blockage from the vacuum intake or remove the mop roller to give it a deeper clean, the components pop out with minimal effort. This ensures that a stray wire or a particularly stubborn mess won’t put your robot out of commission for long.

App Control and Customization

The app is where the C28 offers the most value. It gives you granular control over your home’s hygiene. You can choose to clean a specific room or even a small “zone” within a room.

My favorite feature is the Individualized Room Settings. When you select a specific room, you can customize the water flow and suction power for that area specifically. For example, you can set “Max Suction” for a carpeted bedroom but “High Water Flow” for a tiled kitchen.

Obstacle Avoidance and Challenges

I put the C28 through a gauntlet, including a massive hairball salvaged from my previous vacuum. It handled the debris effortlessly. However, no robot is perfect:

  • The Good: It navigated around a Funko Pop and loose cloths with impressive precision.

  • The Bad: It attempted to “conquer” my slippers and eventually got tangled in loose charging wires.

  • The Solution: Like most LiDAR vacuums, its obstacle avoidance is better than average, but it isn’t magic. I always recommend using the “No-Go Zone” feature in the app for areas with permanent cable clutter.

Final Verdict: Is the Eufy C28 Worth It?

After the first week, I have no issues recommending the Eufy C28. It is a robust, “set it and forget it” machine that excels in app customization and hair management. While it might occasionally miss a spot or get hung up on a stray wire, as almost all robot vacuums do, the ease of setup and the power of its dual-brush system make it a top contender.

Pros:

  • Incredibly easy, pre-installed setup.

  • Dual-brush design is a game-changer for hair tangles.

  • Fast, accurate LiDAR mapping.

  • Simple, tool-free maintenance for rollers and mops.

Cons:

  • Low profile can struggle with thick carpets.

  • Obstacle avoidance still requires “tidying” of wires.
