Animation is not going away from Prime Video – It’s Expanding!

Prime Video made its inaugural appearance at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival with a dedicated Studio Focus Panel, marking a significant expansion of the streaming platform’s investment in premium animation.
The panel featured Head of Animation at Amazon MGM Studios Melissa Wolfe alongside executive producers Robert Kirkman (Invincible), Vivienne Medrano (Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss), Sam Riegel (The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein), and Dave Wilson (Secret Level). The executives discussed the platform’s strategy for adapting comic books, video games, and crowdfunded properties into global animated franchises.
‘Invincible’ Secured for Season 6; Jack Quaid Joins Cast
In the panel’s major headline announcement, Robert Kirkman and Melissa Wolfe confirmed that Invincible has been officially renewed for a sixth season. The renewal establishes the Skybound Animation project as Prime Video’s longest-running animated series to date.
The announcement follows the conclusion of Season 4, which Amazon reports as the series’ most-watched season so far. The fourth season maintained the show’s critical reception, achieving a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Additionally, Kirkman revealed that actor Jack Quaid (The Boys) will join the cast for Season 5. Quaid will voice the character of “Gravitator/Chris.” Attendees at the festival were shown an exclusive first-look clip of the new character in action.
Updates on Critical Role Franchises: ‘Vox Machina’ and ‘Mighty Nein’
Executive producer and voice actor Sam Riegel provided updates on Prime Video’s collaborations with Critical Role.
Riegel presented an exclusive clip from the Season 4 finale of The Legend of Vox Machina (Episode 410), highlighting a confrontation between the character Pike and “The Whispered One/Gideon.” The complete fourth season is currently available for streaming. Like Invincible, The Legend of Vox Machina secured its fourth consecutive 100% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes with its latest season.
The panel also showcased the upcoming series The Mighty Nein with a clip featuring the central group participating in a defensive action during a goblin raid on the fictional city of Nicodranas.
‘Helluva Boss’ Season 3 and ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Release Dates
Vivienne Medrano announced that the first part of Helluva Boss Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on October 14, 2026. Medrano also introduced the first public clip from the upcoming episodes.
For DC fans, Prime Video debuted the official trailer for Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader. The streaming service confirmed that all ten episodes of the second season will release simultaneously on July 31, 2026.
Future Slate and Development
The presentation concluded with updates on several high-profile animated titles currently in active development or production for the platform:
-
Conan the Barbarian (Working Title): Being developed in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios. The panel featured a special recorded message from Emmy-winning creator Genndy Tartakovsky, who is leading the project.
-
Wytches: An adaptation of the comic book series by Scott Snyder and Jock.
-
Lore Olympus: Based on Rachel Smythe’s popular webcomic.
-
Odd Jobs: An upcoming animated project currently in the pipeline.
“The announcements we shared today reflect the scale of our ambition,” said Melissa Wolfe, Head of Animation at Amazon MGM Studios. “Renewing Invincible for a sixth season, bringing Batman: Caped Crusader back this summer, and developing bold new titles like Wytches and Lore Olympus are the kinds of stories that prove animation isn’t a genre, it’s a canvas.”
