Box Knight – a Silly Roguelike Action RPG Set in a Cursed Office

Independent developer We Made A Thing Studios, in partnership with marketing agency Pirate PR, has officially detailed its debut title, Box Knight. Described as a “silly and irreverent” action RPG roguelike, the game blends corporate satire with dungeon-crawling mechanics, effectively mixing the mundane world of The Office with the high-stakes fantasy of Lord of the Rings.
Corporate Chaos Meets Roguelike Combat
In Box Knight, players take on the role of a hero tasked with liberating a workplace that has fallen into literal darkness. A “toxic” environment has transformed once-ordinary employees into dangerous, grotesquely cute creatures. To restore order, players must fight their way through an office tower, room by room, using a variety of weapons and specialized execution moves.
The game features a fast-paced combat system designed to be accessible for newcomers while offering depth for veteran players. Combat operates on a “rock, paper, scissors” mechanic, requiring players to adapt their strategy based on the specific “coworker” enemies they encounter.

Key Gameplay Features
-
Dynamic Runs: As a randomized dungeon crawler, no two playthroughs are identical. Players can unlock in-run upgrades to experiment with different builds, ranging from aggressive “brawlers” to high-agility “hit-and-run” operators.
-
The Council of Janitors: Death serves as a mechanic for progression. Players can visit the Janitors between runs to purchase permanent upgrades to stats and attributes, ensuring that each attempt contributes to long-term power.
-
Visual Style: Leveraging the studio’s background in professional animation, Box Knight features a vibrant, comic-like aesthetic. The art style emphasizes a balance of “bloody and silly” visuals, including unique helmet and uniform customizations.
-
Satirical Setting: Enemies represent fantastical abstractions of workplace tropes, such as “Drone Goblins,” turning the daily grind into a literal battle for survival.
Release Information and Demo
Box Knight is currently slated for a 2026 release on PC. In anticipation of the full launch, We Made A Thing Studios has released a public demo on Steam, which was recently showcased during the February 2026 Steam Next Fest.
Developed in Adelaide, Australia, the project has garnered attention for its polished animation and humorous take on corporate culture. Interested players can now add the game to their Steam Wishlist or download the demo to experience the first few floors of the cursed office tower.
