Season 3 OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER releasing November 11th
Prime Video announced today at Amazon’s annual Upfront presentation that the third season of its fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on November 11, 2026.
The series remains a key asset for Amazon, driving new Prime membership sign-ups and drawing a global audience of over 185 million viewers across its first two seasons.
“From the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate, and that momentum has only grown heading into Season Three.”
Streaming Performance and Critical Reception
The Rings of Power stands as one of the most-viewed original titles in Prime Video history. According to data tracking its 91-day post-premiere launch window, Season 1 remains the platform’s largest television series premiere. Season 2 also secured a spot among the top five most-watched returning seasons on the service.
Additionally, the second season debuted at number one on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 Original Series chart and maintained a position within the top four throughout its broadcast run. Both preceding seasons hold a “Certified Fresh” rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
Season 3 Plot Outline: The War of the Elves and Sauron
Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series chronicles the major events of Middle-earth’s Second Age. It follows an ensemble cast spanning locations such as the Misty Mountains, the Elven capital of Lindon, and the island kingdom of Númenor.
Season 3 will introduce a time jump, picking up several years after the conclusion of Season 2. The narrative will center on the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The upcoming episodes will focus on the Dark Lord’s attempts to forge the One Ring in his bid to defeat the Elven forces and dominate Middle-earth.

Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay continue to head the series as executive producers.
